Study of Geometric Objects Using Coordinates

Coordinate Geometry is the investigation of geometric objects using the coordinate systems. Rene Descartes was the first person to apply algebra to geometry and hence, it is called as the Cartesian Geometry. It evolves from the basic premise that any point in two-dimensional space can be represented by two numbers and any point in three-dimensional space by three.
Coordinate Geometry is called as the Analytic Geometry because it is concerned with the properties of and relationships between points, lines, planes, and figures and with generalizations of these concepts. The approach to geometric problems is primarily algebraic in analytic Geometry.
It’s most common application is in the representation of equations involving two or three variables as curves in two or three dimensions or surfaces in three dimensions.
